It is British School of Beijing policy to employ teachers with outstanding professional credentials from the UK with relevant experience. On occasion, the school will also employ outstanding teachers with other internationally recognised qualifications and British curriculum experience. In order to be qualified, teachers must posses a degree (usually a 3 year course at UK University) coupled with a specialised and relevant Educational/Teaching diploma issued by a reputable institution (usually 1 year). Alternatively, teachers take a specialised 4-year teaching degree, leading to Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) qualification. Teachers of our Early Years section must hold a diploma of Early Childhood studies (usually 2 years). Teachers are also required to have relevant experience in other reputable British Schools. Our academic staff has an average teaching experience of 8 years, with a minimum of 3 years. Each teacher in the Primary School also has the support of a full-time Teacher Assistant who typically joins the school as part of a gap year placement scheme. Teacher Assistants are recruited from the most prestigious independent schools in the UK and this approach helps ensure that the highest quality of teaching and learning takes place in our classrooms, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy. All teachers are supported by library, administration and science staff and are given professional development by UK based experts throughout the year. |
