Thank you very much for the updates Sarah, I am pleased to hear that Sam has settled in so well. I'm sure that it is down to you and the environment that has been created in the classroom. In fact it sounds like so much fun I almost wish I was 6 again! Mrs Baker
Natasha is very happy at school, she has made many new friends and talks proudly about things she does at school. And what a great teacher you are! Thanks so much for making this transition so smooth for her .

Our family’s move to Beijing has been made immeasurably easier because of our experience with the British School of Beijing. My main concerns before the move were around the children’s integration into school – I knew the school environment would be the key to them settling and adapting to a new place.
From our rushed arrival, part-way through a term, to the currently happy and secure status quo of my family, BSB has been integral to our assimilation into Beijing. The admissions process was warm, welcoming, efficient and supportive. The children were assessed sensitively (they are Year 1 and Reception age) and placed in classes with speedy efficiency. Their new form teachers were kind and encouraging to the children and excellent in keeping me informed during the ‘settling in’ period for both children.
My experience of the school’s academic principles and the teachers’ ability to produce results has been impressive. My parenting has also been supported through a strong ethos of social responsibility and awareness taught through all teachers/members of the school. My children now hold the door open for me!
BSB actively encourages parents to get involved as they wish; in the classroom through reading and accompanying the children on excursions and in extra curricular activities by getting involved with the PTA and class networks. We are also involved the direction of the school through the Parents’ Advisory Committee. My husband and I feel ‘in touch’ with our children’s education and that the school is accessible on all levels from form teacher to Principal.
There have been plenty of extra resources available to help us in the rest of our lives in terms of settling into Beijing, with maps, advice, booklets, programmes and contacts being forthcoming from all members of the school. Essentially my happy and thriving children are the proof of an excellent and seamless integration into BSB where the vibe is academic success, life enrichment and fun.

My two daughters have been students at the British School of Beijing since February 2009. China is their first taste of living overseas and is a huge contrast to life in Western Australia. They visited the school the day we arrived in Beijing and met with their respective Teachers. The girls were given a very warm welcome by both staff and pupils, and any anxieties about making friends and all the normal concerns about starting at a new school were immediately forgotten. They started school the next day.
I am very happy with the level of education provided by BSB, I feel the relationship between staff and students creates a very positive learning environment. Having children in Years 2 and 6 I see different teaching techniques in use, and common to both is the mutual respect displayed by class members and staff. In Upper Primary I am especially impressed by how the Teachers quickly form a fantastic relationship with the children at this ‘awkward’ age.
It is important for me that when we leave China our children will be able to deal with the challenge of moving to another country and another school. Whether this is home or another posting, I feel that BSB will have equipped them with the educational tools and self confidence to make an easy transition.
We chose BSB for our children primarily for the British curriculum offered but the clinching factor was the ‘feel’ of the school, there is a very positive, caring and welcoming atmosphere at BSB.
